Introduction:
Naradiya Puran, also known as Narad Puran, is one of the 18 major Puranas in Hinduism, attributed to Sage Narada.
It is considered a Vaishnava Purana, focusing extensively on the worship of Lord Vishnu.
Compiled by Maharishi Vyasa along with the other Puranas.
Structure:
The Naradiya Puran consists of 207 chapters and 22,000 shlokas.
Divided into two parts: Purva Bhag (first part) and Uttar Bhag (second part).
The first part contains 125 chapters and details the creation of the universe, rituals, worship methods, and a list of the 18 Puranas.
The second part contains 82 chapters and is divided into six sections: Shiksha, Kalp, Vyakaran, Nirukta, Jyotish, and Chhand.
Purva Bhag (First Part):
Focuses on various aspects of knowledge, including historical narratives, religious practices, the nature of dharma, and the significance of devotion.
Provides insights into grammar, etymology, astrology, and ritualistic practices.
Includes stories, hidden religious practices, and diverse teachings on devotion, grammar, astronomy, and rituals.
Uttar Bhag (Second Part):
Comprises sections on Shiksha (phonetics and pronunciation), Kalp (rituals and ceremonies), Vyakaran (grammar), Nirukta (etymology), Jyotish (astrology), and Chhand (metrics).
Shiksha deals with pronunciation and chanting methods, while Kalp discusses rituals and their significance.
Vyakaran elucidates grammar rules, Nirukta explains etymology, and Jyotish explores astrology.
Chhand covers Vedic and secular metrics, emphasizing their importance in Vedic recitation.
Significance:
The Naradiya Puran holds importance for its comprehensive coverage of various subjects, including grammar, rituals, astrology, and religious practices.
It provides guidelines for worshiping Lord Vishnu and includes mantras for worshiping other deities like Shiva and Kali.
