Aitareya Upanishad is a major Upanishad that comes under Vedanta philosophy and is a part of the fourth, fifth and sixth chapters of the second Aranyaka of Aitareya Upanishad of the Rigveda. In this the important principles of Brahmavidya (knowledge of Brahma) are described in detail. In this Upanishad, important topics of soul, Brahma, world and human life have been discussed.
Lord Shankaracharya has written an important commentary on this Upanishad, in which he has given importance only to knowledge as a means of attaining salvation and while denying the right of rituals, has given importance to Sannyasa as its right.
Aitareyo Upanishad has three chapters. The first chapter has three sections, while the second and third chapters have only one section each.
